Solubility: This product can be dissolved in cold water to form a transparent viscous solution. Because it contains a certain amount of hydrophobic groups, this product can be dissolved in some organic solvents, and also in mixed solvents of water and organic matter.
Salt resistance: This product is a non-ionic and non-polyelectrolyte. Therefore, it is relatively stable in aqueous solutions of metal salts or organic electrolytes. In the case of too much electrolyte, it may cause gelation or precipitation.
Surface activity: The aqueous solution of this product has surface activity and functions as a protective colloid, emulsifier and dispersant.
Thermal gelation: When heated to a certain temperature, the methyl cellulose aqueous solution becomes an opaque solution due to gel or precipitation. However, it becomes the original solution state after gradually cooling. The temperature at which condensation and precipitation occur depends on the type of product, the concentration of the solution and the heating rate.
Low ash content: using the thermal gel properties of this product, hot water washing is used in the preparation process to achieve the purpose of refining, so its ash content is very low.
Compatibility: Aminoacridine hydrochloride, chlorocresol, mercuric chloride,  tannic acid,  cetylpyridine hydrochloride, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid, Methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, butyl propionate.
Properties: white or light yellow granules or powder, and odorless, tasteless and non-toxic. It is stable to light and heat at about 300ºC, soluble in glacial acetic acid, slowly soluble in cold water and swells into a viscose solution, insoluble, alcohol, ether and hot water. The aqueous suspension is neutral to litmus paper and has different types with a molecular weight of 4000 to 180,000, and generally contains 25 to 30% of methoxy groups.
Uses: Biochemical research. Pulse field capillary electrophoresis was performed on thousands of nucleotides in dilute methylcellulose solution, and bone marrow cells were cultured in semi-solid methylcellulose medium. Used in protective colloid and dispersant, extender, stabilizer and emulsifier, adhesive.
