Properties: white or light yellow powder. It has wettability and is stable to chemicals, heat and light. Odorless and tasteless. CMC is a polymer made by carboxymethylation of cellulose. Pure carboxymethyl cellulose has no practical value, and its sodium salt is actually used.
Uses: Biochemical research. The biggest use is to formulate soaps and synthetic detergents. Add about 1% CMC to heavy-grade detergents to prevent the washed out dirt from re-sedimenting on the fabric. Secondly, it is used as a suspension stabilizer for drilling mud in the petroleum industry. It can be used as an additive in the paper industry to increase the longitudinal strength and smoothness of the paper. When used as a coating, it can improve the printing adaptability of the paper. It is used as a thickener in the food industry. Emulsion stabilizer and ice crystal inhibitor for ice cream; used as a thickener for sizing agent and printing and dyeing slurry in the textile industry; used as an emulsion stabilizer for injections, as a binder and film-forming agent for tablets in the pharmaceutical industry; Used as a thickener in the production of cosmetics and ceramics.
