Properties: White to light yellow crystals, turning red when exposed to light. It is soluble in hot water and hot ethanol, with a solubility of about 1mg/ml. It is also soluble in alkali hydroxide, borax solution and glycerol, and slightly soluble in cold water and ether. The solution darkens in color during storage, with a melting point of 100 to 120 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Celsius). It's stimulating. Hematoxylin cannot be directly stained. It must be exposed to a ventilated area to turn it into oxidized hematoxylin (also known as hematoxylin) before it can be used. This is called "maturation". The "maturation" process of hematoxylin takes a relatively long time. The longer it is prepared, the stronger its dyeing power will be. The material to be dyed must be acted upon by metal salts as mediators before it can have coloring power. Therefore, when preparing hematoxylin dye, mordants must always be used. Commonly used mordants include aluminium sulfate, potassium alum and iron alum, etc. Hematoxylin is an excellent material for staining cell nuclei. It can differentiate different structures in cells into various colors.
Usage: Biochemical research. Dyes for nuclei and chromatin. Blue or black can be obtained by using different mordants. Qualitative verification of copper (II), iron (III), molybdate, bismuth (III) and tin (IV), etc. Photometric determination of vanadium, aluminum, tin (IV), fluorine, niobium, tantalum, etc. Ink manufacturing Acid-base indicator. pH 5.0(yellow) to 6.0(purple), 0.0(pink) to 1.0(green).
