Properties: white or light yellow powder. A hydrophilic polysaccharide from seaweed kelp, which is almost odorless and tasteless. It is sensitive to humidity and slowly soluble in water to form a viscous colloidal solution. It is insoluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and acids with pH lower than 3. The solution does not condense when heated. The pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 6-8, and the viscosity is stable when the pH value is 6-9. When heated above 80 ºC, the viscosity decreases.
